PLP ENABLES REPROGRAPHERS TO EXPAND SERVICES BY ADDING SUPPORT FOR LEADING HARDWARE, SOFTWARE AND FILE FORMATS – Digital Reprographics Solutions Provider Now Offers Support for VIC and JOB File Formats – SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – December 16, 2002 – PLP Digital Systems, the leading digital reprographics solutions provider, today announced the availability of PlotWorks® "Repro Desk Support," which allows PLP's PlotWorks customers to use VIC and JOB file formats, previously only supported in an Océ Repro Desk environment. VIC and JOB files are commonly used by reprographics shops, service bureaus, architects and engineers to print large format jobs. Previously, however, those reprographers could only use the files with Océ hardware and Repro Desk software. Now, reprographers who use other hardware - such as XEROX, KIP and Hewlett-Packard - can work with the VIC and JOB files their customers often ask them to process. "Because VIC and JOB file formats are so prevalent in the commercial reprographics industry, we decided it was in the best interest of the industry for PLP to support these formats," said John Cronin, CEO of PLP. "Now, PlotWorks users who add Repro Desk Support can choose which hardware and software they will use to deliver the best value to their customers. We are giving them the freedom to choose the best solution based on the quality, price and performance of the solution." Roger Marlin, owner of ASAP Reprographics in San Luis Obispo, Calif., purchased PLP's Repro Desk Support to open up new business opportunities. "Without the capability to support VIC and JOB files, I was unable to serve a segment of the market in this area. With PlotWorks Repro Desk Support, I can offer processing services to companies that would otherwise have to use another reprographics shop. Repro Desk Support gives our customers and potential customers additional sources to print their jobs, and it gives us the ability to serve an additional segment of the market." Other customers, such as Banner Reprographix in Montreal, are impressed with Repro Desk Support's ease of installation, which allows them to quickly begin generating revenue with jobs they couldn't process previously. "We started running the system almost immediately after it was installed, using Repro Desk Support for clients who use VIC and JOB files," said Michael Keating, Banner's IT Manager. "Repro Desk Support also gave us the capability of redlining those jobs, which we couldn't do cost-effectively before." Additionally, Keating said Repro Desk Support offers improved scanning capabilities over Banner's previous system, with more features offered in the user interface.
